The boxing world saw one of the biggest upsets of all time as the No. 1 lightweight Teofimo Lopez beat the Australian boxer undefeated George Kambosos Jr at Madison Square Garden.
Teofimo Lopez, the IBF, WBA and WBO lightweight champion will take on George Kambosos Jr on Saturday night in his hometown, New York, at Madison Square Garden. The boxer faced one of his most devastating setbacks when he lost to George by the decision to split in half and give up all of his titles to the Australians.
Kambosos Jr defeated Lopez through the split decision to create the nasty monster. Two referees scored the match as 115-112 and 115-112 for Kombosos and the third referee scored the match as 114-113 for Lopez, deciding to split it in half. Teofimo couldn’t believe it when his hand wasn’t raised. Despite fighting in front of a home audience, boxer Brooklyn was booed for appearing to be a loser.
“I won tonight,” repeated Teofimo Lopez
Teo couldn’t believe his hand didn’t go up after the fight, extremely disappointed. The fight was so close and the former champ was so utterly unconvinced that he crashed his head into George’s post-fight interview inside the ring and said he had won the fight. Watch video:
“I won tonight and everyone knows it. It was the referee who raised his hand for me, I won tonight. I don’t care what anyone says. I won tonight,” Teofimo said in George’s interview. This behavior caused home fans to even boo him at Madison Square Garden.
